Warren DeRuwe Obituary

DeRUWE, Warren Dale
(Age 90)

Passed away February 6, 2011, at his home in Greenacres, WA, with his family by his side. Dale was born in College Place, WA, on January 4, 1921, the son of Felix and Anna (Schiffner) DeRuwe and the brother of Milan DeRuwe, who preceded him in death. His family raised sheep all over Eastern WA, ID, and MT. Dale served in the 1st Marine Division, 1st Replacement Battalion, in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He began his overseas mission fighting at Cape Gloucester New Britain, and then served in the campaigns for Guadalcanal, Peleliu and Okinawa.
Dale met his wife, Cherry (Rowen) at a grange dance. As soon as Cherry turned 18, they were married June 24, 1955, and raised four children.
In 1962, Dale was named Soil Conservation Farmer of the year for Spokane County. He was instrumental in the formation of the Spokane Milk Producers and served his term as president of the board. He was also President of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. Dale began driving school bus with Central Valley School District in 1967, and continued until 1996, after suffering a massive stroke.
Dale became a realtor with the Tomlinson Agency in the Spokane Valley in 1974, receiving top salesman recognition several times. Dale also devoted 52 years of service to the Spokane Valley Lions Club.
Dale was a member of Opportunity Presbyterian Church, serving as elder and head usher for many years and attended church every Sunday with his family for over 55 years.
Dale is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Cherry DeRuwe; children, Vicki (Stephen) Wieber, Dan (Karen) DeRuwe, Tammy (Jay) Hubble and Darin (Jennifer) DeRuwe; ten grandchildren, Brandon DeRuwe, Chris Wieber, Kelly Wieber, Josh DeRuwe, Amanda DeRuwe, Tasia DeRuwe, Shantel DeRuwe, Brittany Hubble, Brooke DeRuwe and Nathan DeRuwe; and one great-grandson, Zachary DeRuwe.
Memorial Services are being held on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at 1:00 PM, at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines, Spokane Valley, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Opportunity Presbyterian Church, the Inland Northwest Chapter of Honor Flight (inwhonorflight.org), or Hospice of Spokane.

I knew Dale when he was a driver for Central Valley District. I rode his bus from 1972 to 1975, and he was the best driver I ever had. He always had a smile and a positive thing to say. Thoughts and prayers to the whole family. I will miss him a lot.

Dales enthusiasm for the Valley, especially Greenacres, led to us to buy a home in the Saltese. As was his style, we became more than clients, we were friends. The family friendship grew and led to many found memories of our life in the Saltese. My successful career in school bus transportation was due to Dales influence. Our memories are of Dales positive attitude, cheerful personality, his love for his family and of course the Saltese. Warm thoughts to all of the DeRuwe family during this sad time of loss.
