Wilbur Parrish Obituary

PARRISH,
Wilbur E. "Bud"
(Age 88)

Bud, a long time resident of Spokane died peacefully in his sleep at the Spokane Hospice House on January 20. He was born August 11, 1922 in Bronson, FL to John David and Myra Parrish. Bud entered the US Navy in 1942; he served aboard LST ships in the Pacific during WWII and Korea. He was an active member of the United States LST Association and the Masonic Temple. He met the love of his life, the former Jeanne Simmons on a blind date in 1946 when his ship was in Bremerton for maintenance. Bud and Jeanne were married two years after their first date-a true case of love at first sight. After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1948 he went to work for Standard Oil. His assignments at Standard Oil took him from Seattle to Spokane in 1968. Bud and Jeanne lived in Spokane until Standard Oil transferred him to Long Beach, CA in 1973. In 1976 Bud and Jeanne moved back to Spokane where they have resided continuously ever since. For the last 23 years Bud and Jeanne lived in Sans Souci West, Spokane, WA. Bud is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanne, sisters Lois and Omega, with several nephews and nieces from Plant City, FL; sons Greg and his wife Oy from Wasilla, AK; Brad and his wife Diana from Electric City, WA, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sans Souci West Community Center on January 29th from 2:00-5:00 PM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Sacred Heart Medical Center and/or Spokane Hospice House. Additionally, the family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Sacred Heart Medical Center and Hospice House who gave much comfort and excellent care to Bud during his final days.

I was a teenager when Uncle Ezel or Bud came to Florida with his family. We all went to Crystal Springs for a picnic. So Uncle Ezel really impressed upon Brad about the snakes and alligators that live in Florida waters. All of us jump in the springs and start frolicking around. When Brad joins in, he see the eel grass waving in the clear waters. It frightens him so much that he seemed to fly out of that water. It was so funny because his Dad had really set him up for it with the snake and alligator stories. I'm glad we got to spend that fun time together. I know he wil be missed. Sincerely, Mary Alred Roland

I am Alpheus Omega Parrish, Bud was my big brother. He was the oldest one of us children at home, so I remember him as being serious because he was left in charge of us kids. He watched over us. Our mother had to work, so when we came home from school the first thing Bud did was to start cooking the beans for supper so Mama could come home and make the cornbread. After that we would all go play in the swamp behind our home in Plant City, FL. We had a large swing out there. We did a lot of dangerous things our mother never knew about. But Bud kept us safe and made sure we were back home before Mama got home. I Love Bud, He was a wonderful big brother.

Love Omega his little sister.

Dear Jeannie & Family: We are sure going to miss Bud; and wish you much comfort and solace to carry you through this difficult time.
We will miss seeing Bud walking the puppie; and I will miss seeing him and Jeannie coming to visit her sister next door.
May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Uncle Ezel's (as we called him in Florida) passing. My father was Grady Parrish, Ezel's brother. Even though we didn't see him very often, we heard fond stories about him from my father. May God comfort and bless the family.

One of my fond memories of Uncle Ezell (that's what we called him down here in Florida) was of the time when he visited us when I was a very young girl. He taught me how to wiggle just one eyebrow. I practiced and practiced and that's the way we came to greet each other. I have taught this to my own four children who are all grown and married now. Even this simple thing that he may or may not have remembered meant so much to me. I will miss him.

Love,

Paula Alred Belcher
