Hermania Anslinger Obituary

ANSLINGER, Hermania A.
(Age 95)

Passed away February 14, 2011. She was born June 26, 1915 in Haubstadt, Indiana.
A gifted artist that worked in various mediums, from a carver of exquisite Victorian furniture's, to tiny porcelain tea-pots, with clients from many countries. She was one of ten miniature artists in the world. A great and gallant lady with a feisty sense of humor and a wonderful friend. At her request no services will be held.

Many years ago, my parents gave me one of Hermania's beautiful miniatures as a Christmas present. I corresponded with her while the miniature was being made, and even years after I received the piece, we continued to write each other on occasion. While I never met her in person, I felt as though I did know her - through her kind words and her beautiful work. I will always treasure the miniature she made for me. Rest in peace, dear Hermania.

I had the opportunity to know Hermania many years ago. My grandparents owned a miniature shop in town (Spokane, WA) called Small Wonders and they became very good friends with Ms. Anslinger. I am fortunate enough to own one of her carvings, a small blue point siamese cat she created just for me by copying a photo of my own cat. The world of miniatures will miss her much. She was a nice person and an amazing artist.

Dear Family and Friends:

Although I never met her in person, her works were all around me as a child growing up in Southern Indiana. She had made and gifted her wonderful works of art to family members over the years. The beauty and creativity she expressed is a treasured memory. One of her carvings -a stagecoach with passengers and horses has been passed down to my granddaughter. We were fortunate to meet Hermania's niece, Margie, and her daughter on one of their trips to Indiana.

Condolences and prayers to all who loved her.
