I hope you and Dad had shared joy on Derby day. It was an incredible run through a lot of traffic with a great result. I continue to miss what might have been, but treasure what was. I hope you met my boy, Jackson and my hubby, Ralph. Love you Sister

Joan was my sister. Happiest day of my life when I learned of her existence and saddest because I was kept from that knowledge for so long. We met in person when I was 18, corresponded for years and met on a few occasions. When our father passed in 1977, we mourned together. I miss her and what could have been. The unfairness of our separation continues to loom over me. But, I loved her regardless and was over the moon when I learned I was a great aunt to her granddaughters who are grown, beautiful young women. I will never understand why she and I were not a part of each others lives when I was a child. But I do understand loving someone you barely know because they are blood. We did share laughs, tears, and love. I treasure that and the brief times we had together. Joan, you are missed in ways no one else can know but you and I.

I think of you all the time. This year the Kentucky derby was on your birthday. Remember that he passed right after returning from the race in 1977. I imagine you watched together this year. Happy birthday, my sister.

My Dearest Mom ... gosh I miss you. It's so weird that you are gone. I keep thinking I need to make arrangements to come to Spokane to see you again, then I remember. I keep waiting for the "509" phone calls. They don't happen. I love you so much and I miss you even more. I thought I would have you much longer, not to be. Your loving daughter, Susie

Joan,
The are no words to adequately express how I feel at the loss we both had for so many years. My joy for you is that you had a wonderful family and granddaughters who adore you. May you rest in peace.

Grandma,
You were one of the most important people in my life. You helped to shape who I am today, and I miss you more than anyone will ever know. I love you always and forever.
Love,
Shannon
