John was born January 21, 1928 in Medford, MA to Patrick and Bessie McGrory, the middle of five children. He passed away on February 23, 2011 in Spokane. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1945 and attended service schools including 52 weeks in hydrography, civil engineering and oceanography at the US Naval Hydrographic Office in Suitland, MD. He had 30 years of service in the Marines serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, plus he served in many foreign countries conducting coast and land-beach studies. He held every enlisted rank prior to making Commissioned Warrant Officer (W4) in 1968. John retired from the Marines in 1975. He is a past member of the Eagles Aerie 2 and the Military Officers Association of America (formerly The Retired Officers Association, TROA). John is survived by his wife of 30 years, Donna McGrory; daughter, Marlyavon Boos of Spokane; son, Brian Boos (Dawn) of Chandler, AZ; nephew, Thomas McGrory (Mary) of Windsor Locks, CT; niece, Robin McGrory (Wayne) of Marstons Mills, MA, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. A special thanks goes to Nancy and Lou Anne of Hospice of Spokane, Jan and Jeff and the rest of the staff at Fairwood Assisted Living and John's special friends Sibyl and Manley Fliger. Visitation for John will be from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Tuesday, March 1st at Heritage Chapel with Funeral Services to follow at 1:00 PM.
