Michael
Passed away on May 30, 2011. Michael touched many lives and made an impact on everyone he encountered. His charisma, charm and unforgiving wit will always be missed but never forgotten. Michael is survived by his parents, Steve and Jo Thomas; sister, Cortney Thomas; aunts and uncles, Char and Craig Thomas, John and Sherri Harshman, Wally Tomson, and Merri Winkler; many cousins, as well as an infinite number of friends who adored him. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 3rd at 6:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home.

Michael Thomas lives on powerfully in my memory as a vibrant, creative and wonderfully curious soul. And truly the most beautiful friend. At a time in my life when everything around me was new and unknown, I met Michael. It was as if he came and swept me up, and showed me his world. His passion, his brilliant mind and his boundless ability to love will never stop inspiring me. How blessed I feel to have met such a rare and magical man. And wow! could he made me giggle... I miss him painfully, but cherish his memory. I pass on my deepest condolences to his family. He spoke of his sister and his parents with such love.

Michael was so gifted and talented. After a few hair cuts, he said, "I got it, just the perfect cut" - for the back of my hair where it would always just fall apart and look flat. He cut it so it would not do this. And yes, it was perfect! How did he do it? Nobody ever had cut my hair like Michael did. During our sessions we talked a lot. He was curious about me and I about him. I don't know how the subject came up, but I asked him if he was religious and he answered yes. And in the end, we always ended about talking about Jo, his mom and my friend! I knew about Michael before I met him. Jo told me about Michael, her son. I saw his picture at work, he was so so special to his family!!
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is sadness, joy.
Jo, my mother wrote this for me when I was only 8 years old, it was 1967, I loved it ever since. I am writing it for you and Steve and Cortney, it is a Francis of Assisi prayer.

My heart has been heavy since hearing about Michael's passing. It's been years since I've seen or spoke with him, yet it feels like yesterday that we were best of friends and living together in West Seattle. I haven't been able to find the words to express my sadness about the loss of Michael. He was like a brother-friend to me: brutally honest and vulnerable, yet we always were able to laugh about our shared insecurities. My favorite memory was our night out with our most favorite people in the world - our Moms. I love you Michael and take comfort in knowing that you are at peace now with our Lord. My thoughts and prayers are with the Thomas family.

Just found out yesterday of Michael's passing - I was shocked and felt a sudden loss in my heart. Michael did my hair at NUYU, and our conversations were always so interesting, colorful and full of laughter. My prayers are with all of Michael's family and good friends. R.I.P.

Michael touched a lot of hearts and left an imprint on us all. I remember listening to the Killers "Hot Fuss" recently and immediately thought of him. He introduced me to that record and whenever I hear a song from it I think of him. I cannot be there tomorrow but I will play that record all day and night. I will hold onto the memories we shared forever.

I am so sorry for your loss. Michael was always a bright light. I met him thru Jenny Carlson. I recently saw him at A Nu Yu. I had no idea he had moved back to Spokane. It doesn't seem possible. How can it be true? Wasn't he just dancing with a girl, wasn't he just showing the world around his new creative place? wasn't he just nodding his head like he does and saying I knoowww with his lip pooched out and his eyes open wide and his hand on his hip? Mykul was so much fun, such an intrepid and adventurous soul. I only knew him for two years, but I can't stop weeping when I look at his photo. I wanted to know him longer. What wonderful family and friends he has. I am thinking of the special book that his mother Jo talked about at his recent birthday party. I hope there is some comfort there. My heart is breaking right now. I can't even imagine what you are all feeling. I thought about Michael often, even when lengths of time had passed since I had seen him. He is such an imprint in my life. We have shared so many fun and happy times. Along with some hard times too. When I think of my college and early adult years living and growing in Seattle. Michael was the person by my side. When I was with Michael I felt loved, honored and confident. He had this healing spirit about him that was so strong. Everyone who met him were instantly fond of him. I always felt at ease around him and could talk to him about anything. I am so blessed that I was able to track him down last year and have a fun filled long weekend with him. It was nice to rekindle old times, since I'm so busy with my marriage and young kids. I'm glad he got to spend some time with them also. I cannot believe he is gone. I want another vacation with him laughing, going shopping and watching movies. Which we all know were favorites of Michael's too. Please know that Michael will always be by the sides of all he knew and loved and he will never be forgotten.
