Raymond Daves Obituary

DAVES, Raymond C.
(Age 91)

Raymond Coleman Daves went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Adeline on June 3, 2011. He was born in Ava, MO on June 1, 1920 to Arthur and Brantie Daves. Ray is preceded in death by his lovely wife, Adeline, and their daughter Janet Daves Hanson. He is survived by his daughter Rayma Daves, Deer Park; brother John Daves, Laredo, TX; sister Alice Jo Nichols, Memphis, TN; grandchildren Todd Hanson, West Linn, OR; Angela Boyette, Spokane; Devin Hanson, La Center, WA; Alyssa Gomez, Pendleton, OR; Sarah Hanson, Eureka, CA; great-grandchildren Alexandria Batacan, Elisha Hanson, Kaila Boyette, Joshua Hanson, Akira Gomez and Connor Hanson, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and all of his friends he loved as family. He was always involved in the community with a special fondness for the Pearl Harbor Survivors Group of Spokane. He never met a stranger and was a good friend to all. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping and travel. Ray's ready laugh, quick wit and wonderful sense of humor will be missed. He grew up in Vilonia, MO. He worked for the CCC and that is how he met Adeline. He enlisted in the US Navy and is a Pearl Harbor survivor as well as surviving the Battle of the Coral Sea and Midway. He is a Purple Heart recipient. Ray worked for 27 years for the Federal Aviation Agency and was honored this year to have the Approach Control Tower at Spokane International Airport named in his honor. Memorial contributions may be made to the Inland Northwest Honor Flight, 608 W. 2nd, Suite 309, Spokane, WA 99201 or the Union Gospel Mission. Visitation will be held from 8 AM to Noon, Thursday, June 9 at Heritage Funeral Home; a Graveside Ceremony will be at 1:00 PM at Riverside Memorial Park followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30 PM at Trinity Baptist Church, 6528 N. Monroe Street.

You will always be one of my 16 million heroes of WWII. It was a high honor for me to meet you, to escort you to the WWII memorial, for you to become my friend and to become your honorary grandson. You and so many others have deeply inspired me and you will NEVER be forgotten.
