Richard
"Rick"
(Age 50)

After attending Gonzaga Prep and North Central High School he received several degrees and certificates from Spokane Technical Institute, ITT Tech, and Spokane Community College, often ending up on the honor list for accomplishments. He worked many years at Cox Cable and G&B Property Management, operated his own company Akins HVAC/Mechanical, and lastly was employed at Spokane School District 81 as one of their head technicians. Rich also had a lifetime attraction to Priest Lake where he grew up at his family's cabin. Later in life he would return often to go camping with his kids and friends on the islands. I was Rick's cub scout den mother. Early grade school(Linwood)...sweet memories of a cute dark haired fun loving ...very busy little boy. My condolences to his family -- so sad to lose your loved one so young. Rick was a good friend of my son, Gary Brown. Sharon (Brown) Meier

I attended "Prep" with Rick and rode the city bus with him to and from school. Some of our young adult antics on the bus earned us a long walk - as we were excused from the bus. We would laugh about it all the way home, totally worth it. I am sorry to hear about Rick. My thoughts are with his family.

I met Rick in first grade at Linwood School. He was a member of the "Bears" reading group. In fourth grade, he wowed us at the Science Fair with a working demonstration of a whole electrical circuit. I saw his wilder side in high school, and we lost touch. He was a fierce competitor and friend. My prayer for the family is for peace and comfort, and eventually the joy which comes from both.

I remember Rick from first grade at Linwood. He was in the "Bears" reading group. In fourth grade, he wowed us at the Science Fair with his demonstration of how electricity works, modeling a whole circuit. I saw a lot of his wilder side in high school, and lost touch. He was always a good friend and a fierce competitor. My prayer for his family is for comfort, peace, and eventually the joy that comes from both.

I worked with Rick many years ago at Cox Cable. I was very deeply saddened to learn of his passing. He was a VERY special person and one of the hardest, dedicated workers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. My heartfelt condolences go out to all his family and friends.

I have known Rick since I was a young boy growing up in the Linwood
school area. We have continued our friendship into adulthood. Rick was brillant with computers and all things mechanical. Every year "the boys" got together for our male bonding at Deep Lake. I will miss him.

I am so sorry to hear about Rick's passing. We were next door neighbors when we were young and he was one of my favorite friends. Even though we lost contact many years ago, I have thought of him often. To Joe and Eunice and all the Akins family, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
