Velma Marion Obituary

MARION,
Velma I.
(Age 82)

Velma Marion was peacefully wrapped in angel wings on the evening of March 12, 2011; passing away in her home of 56 years after a long battle with cancer. Velma is survived by her two daughters, Ellen Harkness and Dena Marion, both in the Spokane area; her grandchildren Danielle Scott (Puyallup), Ken (Amanda) Scott (Moses Lake); and Kate Scott (Spokane). She is also survived by two siblings -" brother, Elton (Diane) Hill and sister, Ruth McGovern; sister-in-laws, Shirley Gardner (Spokane) and Marilyn Petrick (Cheney), along with numerous nieces and nephews. Velma was preceded in death by her loving husband and partner of 65 years, Walter S. Marion, Jr. Velma supported her family during their growing years as a seamstress, operating from the home. Her talents included alterations and custom orders from her clients, to special occasion and wedding dresses. The family could count on a barefoot finding of the lost pin hidden in the living room carpet after a fitting session. Velma also worked for Pacific Trail Sportswear for a period of time, starting with sewing piece work and then as one of the office staff. After this she then returned to family life as a homemaker, enjoying the golden years and traveling with her husband. Priest Lake was often their summer hideaway. This lovely lady will be missed by those she touched during her 82 years of life. Curiosity, wit, and spunk were endearing to those who encountered her. There are those that will cross our paths for a moment and others will stay awhile and leave footprints on our hearts-¦.that she did! Family wishes to thank Cancer Care Northwest for their expertise, guidance, talents and dedication; Horizon Hospice and their nurses for their compassionate care during the last steps of our journey; and Care to Stay Home for their tender caregivers. Family will honor both their parents/grandparents, Walt and Velma, in a celebration of life, sharing memories on April 2nd at the family home from 1-4 p.m. Please contact Ellen Harkness at 509-998-6521 for questions. If charitable donations are your wish, suggestions are the Research Fund of the American Cancer Society or Cancer Care Northwest's Foundation.
