Vera Flaa Obituary

FLAA, Vera
"Babe"
(Age 70)

Babe was born on July 22, 1940 in Bellingham, WA to Walter and Susie Mullett. She was the baby sister to Vivian Bart and Victor Mullett. In 1946 the Mullett family moved to Spokane. Babe graduated from West Valley High School and Kinman Business University. In 1960, she married Richard Haag and had three children. They lived in California for 10 years. In 1970 the family returned to Spokane where Babe worked for many years in banking. Dick passed away in 1994 and Babe took up traveling. She visited Hawaii and Graceland among other places. In 1996, Babe married Bud Flaa. She retired from Sterling Savings as Vice President in 2002. Babe spent her free time quilting, sewing, knitting and bragging about her grandchildren. When Bud retired in 2005, they became snowbirds and began spending winters in Arizona, always returning home for Christmas. Babe is survived by her husband Bud Flaa, three children, Cindy Mallicoat, Debbie Stevens and Rick Haag, three step-children Alton Flaa, Jeff Flaa and Kim Kjolseth, along with 16 grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Patient Care. A Memorial Service will be held at Noon on Saturday, May 21st at Heritage Chapel.

Remembering such a great reunion in Spokanegoing on a boat ride with many relatives, making a huge fruit salad, the campfire and singing. Babe was the driving force behind it all!
I still have the farmhouse picture that I won at the reunion in Battleford Provincial Park. I am sure that it was donated by Babe. She was always smiling and brought so much joy!

To Debbie, Cindy, Rick and Bud
I remember Babe's wonderful laugh at the Mullett reunion in Saskatchewan last summer. She was so full of fun and loved to be in the heart of the action. Although I didn't know her well, we are entwined in the multitude of Mulletts. Take comfort from the wonderful memories each of you have of good times together and live your lives well to honour her.
Your cousin, Patra Panser. Delta, B.C.

To Bud, Debbie, Rick, Cindy and families:
With you in mind and heart as you make your way through this time of loss and significant change in your lives.
I also last saw Babe at the 2010 Mullett Reunion in Saskatchewan....and once again saw that smile that I remember seeing when we were both much younger and my mother and I visited in Spokane at Uncle Walter and Aunt Susie's. I think I remember Babe being into tennis at that time.....very warm and beautiful young woman.
I'm sure you will all miss her very much, and be able to remember her goodness in your lives. Hugs to you,
cousin Laura Sackville, Charlottetown, PEI, Canada

My sympathies to the families Mullett and Flaa in the loss of your loved one. I knew her as Vera in junior high and West Valley High School. We were involved in pep club and after school sports activities. I remember her as always smiling and friendly. I saw her for the first time in years at our class reunion in 2008 still bearing her quick smile.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dear loved one. It's comforting to know that God cares for all of us. The Bible gives us hope that one day we can see our loved ones again. On behalf of all mankind Jesus surrendered his soul. John 15:13 says “No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his soul on behalf of his friends.” Truly I am sorry to hear of the loss of your dear loved one and I hope these few words will bring you comfort and hope.

My heart breaks at the loss of a cousin and friend but most of all it breaks for her husband, children, family and friends left to carry on without her shining presence. We will honor her by living the lives she would wish for us and by remembering her with love at all the family gatherings she loved so much.

I remember Vera with fond memories. We graduated from both grade school and high school together. We played many sports together. When we were in the 8th grade, we were majorettes and marched in the Junior Lilac Parade. In high school we were also in pep club and cheered especially at basketball games when Jud Heathcote was the coach. I send my prayers to the family.
