HAMMON, Wayne Lucian
(Age 90)

Passed away April 15, 2011 at Liberty Lake, WA due to complications of Alzheimers. He was born September 11, 1920 to Charles L. and Stella Steele Hammon and raised in Charles City, Iowa, graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1938. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 7, 1939. While stationed at Geiger Field, in Spokane, WA. He met Iona Mottaz, where she was singing with her twin sister at a local night club called The Dutch Mill. Iona and Wayne married on September 14, 1941, in Spokane, WA. She passed away December, 1995.
Dad served in World War II, almost three years in the South Pacific Theater, 5th Air Force as a crew chief/mechanic on planes. After WWII, he stayed in the Air Force and was stationed in Victorville, California, Hickham Air Force Base, Oahu, Westover Air Force Base, Massachusetts, and Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, mostly working with Strategic Air Command and B52's. Retiring after 20 years moved to Junction City, Oregon, where he owned and operated a gas station and auto repair shop several years before moving to Waterloo, OR. where he was employed as a millwright. Dad developed a love of antique clocks, was a gifted craftsman working with wood, building several clocks and recreating many colonial pieces of furniture. After his second retirement Mom and Dad moved back to Spokane, WA.
Survivors include his son Jerry Hammon, Spokane, WA., daughters Lynne Bronson, Harrisburg, OR., Marilyn Rogers, Pullman, WA., and Glenda Hammon, Portland, OR.; brother Donald Hammon, Alamogordo, NM; grandchildren Tracy Heinrich, Wendy Gilcrist, Wayne Hammon, Shelly Hall, Matt Bronson, Jeff Bronson, Jennifer Hilty-Jones, Jared Rogers, and Jason Rogers, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Wendell Hammon.
