(Age 93)
Passed away February 13, 2011 in Cheney, WA. He was born January 30, 1918 to Louis and Mary (Turner) Rietz on the farm he grew up on 17 miles south of Cheney. Gil grew up when farming was done with horses and rode horseback to the one room grade school at Cherry Springs. He was a graduate of Cheney High School, class of 1935. Gil worked at Ratcliff Ford in Cheney for several years before he married Helen Knauft on March 28, 1942. Gil entered the Coast Guard and was stationed in Seattle where he earned a chief mechanics rating. After leaving the Coast Guard he worked at a Mechanics shop in Seattle for several years before returning to Cheney to live and work on the family farm. He retired from farming after 30 yrs and moved into Cheney where he lived until his passing. He is survived by his son; Gary Rietz. Daughters; Myrna Moe and husband Ron, and Denise Rietz. Grandchildren; Danniell Rietz, Darren and Derek Moe. Great grandchildren; Rebekah and Sarah Rietz and Aaron and Kendall Hough. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Helen in 1998 and his grandson Gareth Rietz. The family will be at the funeral home for visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Friday February 18. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Spokane Memorial Gardens Cemetery. CHENEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, Cheney Washington.
