Helen Leifer Obituary

LEIFER, Helen Anna
(Age 93)

Passed away March 16, 2011 with members of her family by her bedside. She was born April 16, 1917 at the Gordon homestead near Pine City to James Eugene and Margaret Rose (Sullivan) Gordon. She was 12 years old when her mother passed away, and learned responsibility at an early age, helping to raise her younger brothers until she was 24 years old. Helen married Clyde Laverne Leifer December 26, 1941. They farmed in the Pine City area where they were blessed with 10 children. Helen had the love of a good husband, lived a wonderful life, and cherished each baby, whether it was her child, grandchild or great grandchild. She and Clyde enjoyed any event in which their children and grandchildren participated, often arriving early so they could get good seats. She encouraged the players, no matter what age they were, to be good sports and have a sense of humor. Helen's love of family was closely followed by her love for gardening. She provided abundant produce from the garden she tended daily, often before her children awoke early in the mornings. After Helen & Clyde retired in Cheney, they still had a small garden, which Helen tended even last summer. Helen and Clyde were married 67 years when Clyde passed away in 2009. Helen was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Margaret, her step-mother Frances, husband Clyde, son John Leifer, grandson Lance Leifer, siblings Martha, Marie, Harold and John Gordon, and brother- in-law Mel Neighbors. She is survived by her brother Ed Gordon and his wife Rita, sister Peggy Neighbors, sister Mary Frances and her husband Don Westerman, sisters-in-law Georgia and Dorothy Gordon, brother-in-law Irv Leifer, sons and their spouses Joe and Patty Leifer, Jim and Janet Leifer, Clyde and Joyce Leifer, Ed and Brenette Leifer, Daniel and Kelley Leifer, daughters and their spouses Margaret and Dale Oliver, Marie and Ron Hahner, Laura Bonner, and Dolores Cage; Grandchildren Therese Artz White, Steve Leifer, Travis Bonner, Keith Leifer, Sherman Leifer, Jason Bonner, Jeff Leifer, Wesley Artz, Lexy Hahner Rosebrook, Elizabeth Hahner Goldsmith, Chaz Bours, Kayla Leifer, Larissa Leifer, Litney Leifer Gallagher, John Vincent Cage, Brent Leifer, Anna Rose Cage, Logan Leifer, Xandrea Leifer, Heleena Leifer, Jessica Bonner, Aaron Leifer, Saylen Leifer, and Emerey Leifer; Great-grandchildren Allie White, Morgan Leifer, Rachel Leifer, Bethany White, Ryan Leifer, Bo Leifer, Adeline Leifer, Jordyn Goldsmith, Max Leifer, Jaycee Goldsmith, John Sherman Leifer, Tanner Goldsmith, Marissa Leifer, Gus Leifer, Isabella Adazewski, and Kameron Rosebrook. A Rosary will be held Friday, March 25 at 6 pm and a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 26 at 11 am at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cheney, WA. A Reception will follow the Memorial Service in the church hall. Burial of Urn will take place this summer at Pine City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or the charity of your choice. Cheney Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

I feel so fortunate to have had you and Clyde in my life... if only on the fringes. Such wonderful, loving people -- set a very high standard of kindness, understanding & the joy of sharing, humor, and gratefulness for that long list of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as their friends that were blessed to spend time with you. Thank you, Helen! I'm happy for you!
