Gerald Keevy Obituary

KEEVY,Gerald William Sr.
(Age 91)

Gerald William Keevy, Sr., was born on November 6, 1919, to Charles Edward and Leila Helen Keevy. He peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 22, 2011. Gerald is survived by his son, Duane (Anne); daughter, Karen Ornee (John); daughter-in-law, Kay; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; sons, Donald and Gerald William, Jr. (Bill); and brothers, Donald and Gene.

Gerald was born and raised in Spangle, WA. He had fond memories of his childhood and always was happy to ride along the roads in the country and reminisce about his early life and experiences. He joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Denver, CO, where he met Esther Marie Dahlberg and fell in love at first sight on July 4, 1943. They married on September 24, 1943. Gerald and Marie celebrated 62 years of a strong, loving marriage.

Gerald will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his quiet faith. He always worked hard to provide for his family and lived a life of honesty and integrity, sprinkled with a generous sense of humor. He had a special love for children and each one that came along made him smile. He was the head of a family that will strive to carry on the values he taught and modeled for us.

A celebration of a life well-lived will be held at First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., Spokane, WA 99218, on Friday, January 28 at 11 AM. A graveside service will be held following the memorial at Spokane Memorial Gardens at 2 PM. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 27, from 4-6 PM at HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. MONROE, SPOKANE.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation for the special care he received during the last five years at Greenbluff Terrace Adult Family Home. The staff was kind and caring, and gave his family comfort and peace of mind knowing he was in good hands. The residents and staff will be missing him and his accordion concerts. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to present Greenbluff Terrace a gift in his name. Contributions can be arranged through Karen Ornee.

Sending our sympathy from the family of Jim and Shirlee (deceased) Voshell. I have wonderful childhood memories of coming to Uncle Bud's and Aunt Marie's home. I remember both of them as warm, happy people. May your memories comfort you. ~ Deanna Voshell Osburn

Dear Duane, Karen, Kay and Families,
I first met your dad while I was doing periodic maintenance at Woodcrest and got to know him better at Greenbluff Terrace. I loved to listen to him play his accordion while I was working. I was not only impressed by his talent but also by his willingness to share it to make others happy. I was more impressed that he was so affable and took the time whenever he saw me to ask questions about me and my work. My family is especially grateful for the kindness he showed to my older sister, Lynette, who is also a resident at Greenbluff. Your dad's twinkling eyes and smiling face were definitely indicative of his character and his soul. My sympathy is with you as you move on in your own lives without him but following his legacy as your guide.
Sincerely,
Paddy Inman
