Beloved wife and mother Juliette "Julie" Hedemann Howard passed away on Monday, March 7, 2011. Julie was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 28, 1920. Julie married Lewis Warren Howard on January 24, 1941. Julie and Lewis retired in 1989 and moved to Spokane, Washington which became their home for the next 22 years. Julie and Lewis enjoyed the past eight years at Harbor Crest Retirement Community where they enjoyed a wonderful, supportive, kind, family oriented environment. Her family enjoyed countless get-togethers at Harbor Crest including meals, Easter Brunches, birthday celebrations, and spending the night.
Julie enjoyed and instilled in her children a love and appreciation for the fine arts. She played classical music on her piano and was well acquainted with the masters of literature and art. She was an avid Bridge player. For years she was the highly valued seamstress of choice for her many friends in Honolulu, where she and Lewis lived for fifty years. When they moved to the island of Maui, Julie worked part-time at a large clothing store where she did alterations for tourists and residents alike.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Lewis Howard; daughters, Amy Howard (Maggie Montana) of Spokane, Patricia Pizarro (Jorge) of Alberta, Canada; and her, Warren Howard (Ann Lasasso) of Vancouver, Washington. Julie will also be missed by her six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Juliette is remembered by her family for her sweet temperament, sense of humor, generous spirit, and steadfast endurance in spite of on-going health problems in her later years.
Juliette's family expresses a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Waterford Skilled Nursing where Julie resided since November 8, 2010. Gratitude is also expressed to Hospice of Spokane for their compassion, care, and support while making sure that Julie's last days were comfortable. For all who knew Julie and were touched by her sweet smile, she will be missed terribly.
A Celebration of Life Service will be planned at Harbor Crest Retirement Community where Julie lived with her husband for over eight years. The service will be held on Saturday, March 26th, 2011 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Arrangements for burial in the family plot at Oahu Cemetery in Honolulu, Hawaii are pending.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to Hospice of Spokane. Arrangements entrusted to Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe St. in Spokane.
