Patricia Kane Obituary

KANE,
Patricia Ann
(Age 90)

Passed away peacefully at her home at the Waterford on March 3, 2011. She was born December 4, 1920 in Bellingham, WA to Herman and Orvilla Petersen. A lifetime resident of Spokane, Pat graduated from North Central High School. While at North Central she was elected to reign as the Football Princess and was known as "Princess Pat".

Pat was married for 48 years to Robert F. "Bob" Kane. They were high school sweethearts.

Pat was always very active socially. She was a member of the Manito Golf and Country Club and served as president of the Women's Association. She loved playing golf with her many friends from Manito. She had a large circle of close friends including a special group with which she continued to play bridge, mahjong and celebrated birthdays "out on the town".

Funny isn't strong enough to describe Pat's lovable and engaging personality. In all her years including the ones at The Waterford, she developed strong personal relationships with everyone she met. She took a personal interest in all aspects of her friends' lives. She was very interested in current events and had strong opinions. She was a staunch Republican with a clear idea of right and wrong and was happy to share that with you but always with a humorous twist. She loved following sports and was an avid fan of Gonzaga and WSU.

During the last year the family celebrated Pat's 90th birthday. A standout event was a family reunion of all the Petersen descendants at her favorite cousin Richard's home on Orcas Island. Three generations got together to laugh and share old and new stories. Pat loved this past Christmas when the Kanes all gathered at Priest Lake.

Pat especially enjoyed and appreciated all the great care givers and staff at the Waterford retirement home. She often held court in her room with the many friends that loved and enjoyed her -˜large' personality. Her sons want to especially thank the many Waterford staffers who made her life there so amazing and wonderful.

Pat is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey Kane and his wife, Judy of Falmouth, ME, Jim Kane of Priest Lake, ID; two grandchildren, Lauren Kane, David Kane; a cousin, Richard Chamberlain, his wife, Betty and their sons, David and John. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992.

There will be a viewing on Monday, March 7, 2011 from 1:00 to 8:00 pm at HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. MONROE ST. with Pat's sons present to greet visitors from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. A memorial gathering for family and close friends to celebrate Pat's life is planned for Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Manito Golf and Country Club.

In lieu of flowers send memorial contributions to the Union Gospel Mission, 1224 E Trent, Spokane, 99202 or www.ugmspokane.org; or a charity of your choice.

To our dear friends, Jim and Jeff - It has been so good to see you. I pray your hearts will soon be comforted with all the great memories, laughs and times cherished and shared with your Mom. Pat is one of the funniest ladies I've known and always makes me smile when I think of her. Her crazy sense of humor she always shared with us has been such a privilege knowing her. I hope life gives us the same "fun ride" that Pat had.

And to Pat---thanks for being a "2nd Mom" to my hubby. Thank goodness you have always watched over him. I look forward to the day I see you in heaven, dear gal.
Much love to all of you,
Jennifer (and Mark) Hanson
