I work with your daughter Patti and cherish her friendship. This is such a beautiful tribute to you and your life. May the support of family and friends help your loved ones through this difficult time.

February 2, 2011

I've been friends with your daughter, Patty, since I met her through my sister, Karen. That was 1969 or 1970... close enough. I know how much Patti's family means to her. I wish I had met you, but I've heard family stories that made me smile. God be with you and your family. Kathie Box Hayes (Tacoma, WA)

Great Grandpa Charlie
I remember when you told me the song of those horses and I will never forget you. You laughed a lot and you are the best great grandpa ever.

Dear Charlie,
You and Ellie did a wonderful thing when you married and had a family. You lived a life of love, hard work and taught your children the importance of those values and what it means to be a close knit family.

I am thankful to have been a good friend to Patti all of these last 40 years because it brought you into my life, and my family's life, also. It was great to see you whenever you came to the coast on vacations and thanks for taking Patti and I out on the town when we visited you in Vegas. We sure enjoyed ourselves. You are a good, good man, Charlie, and we were lucky to have known you.

Thanks dad for teaching me to work hard,to treat everyone I meet with respect. You were a good example for me on how to raise a family. Since we only had one week a year to spend toghter that week was always special since we spent so much time on the golf course and trying to show me how to catch those great salmon in Spirt Lake. I will always remember the great times and miss you everday.

Grandpa, I will miss you, but I have so many memories of you while growing up! Catching fish, swimming off the dock, letting me drive the golf cart, and getting me my first cowboy hat! We always loved coming up to see you, and I cherish all the times we had. I was a lucky kid having you for my grandpa, and will keep that with me all my life!

Grandpa you will be dearly missed. I recall all the good times we had visiting you and Grandma. From the house in Haden Lake where Matt and I would walk down to the lake in the back yard, but rarely jump in because of the lily pad monster (thanks Dad). The fishing outing on the boat was always a good time and we would catch so many fish. Any time that we had the chance to visit I always looked forward to it.

Grandpa - You were the best grandpa any little girl could ever ask for. I remember when you would pick Sarah and I up from our house in Post Falls after a week of work and take us to your house where we would spend the week-end. You would play country music and the air conditioner or the heat would be on depending what time of year it was. I remember the smell of the car and the suits you would wear. Thank you for teaching me how to fish ... and for taking the bait out of the fish mouth (I really hated that part).
You would always help us find the empty spot in our belly so we would have room for desert. I remember sitting on the floor in the office while you payed bills and drawing lines in the carpet! You always made sure we did not slip on the hill walking down to the lake. You let us dirve the golf cart and we felt so cool. We knew better to stay out of your chair and to not use your pen ... but we also knew where to find the certs! I could go on and on. I do not have anything but happy memories of spending time with you ... I will miss you ... but my heart is very full of your laughter and joy for life ... you will always be with me! I love you.

Wish I could have seen Charlie more over the few years. It was always too far between visits. He has always been the funniest one of the family and he is sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you!!
