Just a few memories I fondly remember when I was about 3 or 4 years old, was sitting in the old galvanized tub and Cleo giving me a bath, we had sweet smelling bubbles galore, what fun that was. She always made it so special.
After curling her hair with the curling iron for the Saturday night dance and house party at our family’s home, to appease me, she curled mine, too. This was not an electric iron, but heated in the lampshade of a lighted kerosene lamp. However, once accidentally it burned the tip of my ear, just something that one never forgets. But I had curly hair………..and Cleo enjoyed dancing the night away to the music of local musicians.
Standing over the wood cook stove helping Mom cook pancakes, bacon, and eggs, for a family of eight. Oatmeal was a given. There was always work to be done on the family farm.
Cleo was a caring and forgiving person. She was a hard worker, yet when her time came, she took pride in the little things that made her special, jewelry, Avon fragrances, and little extras dear to her. And I must say she carried the beauty of growing old, gracefully.
When I visited Cleo in the nursing home if it was Wednesday at 3 p.m. I would find her in the activity room playing Bingo. Not 1 card, but 2 at a time. Surprisingly as I just observed her, she never missed a number that matched her card. And quite frequently she won a prize, most often she chose jewelry, and had quite a collection at that. This went on until the last couple of months. Some days there was not a lot to visit about, but she always enjoyed a back rub with lotion from her nightstand. And I enjoyed that, too. And gave me a smile.

I have so many really dear memories of Grandma that I will cherish forever. One of the really valuable lessons I learned from her is acceptance. Grandma had this ability to accept the things she couldn't change. She accepted unpleasantness and she would get past it that way. I love you Grandma and miss you terribly. God please hold her close in your loving arms. Amen
