Marguerite Chase Obituary
(Marguerite) Jean Chase went to be with her beloved Savior on Sunday March 13th, 2011 after a valiant battle against Alzheimer's disease. Born in NJ on January 17, 1929, she graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC in 1953 with a BA in Bible and Education. She was named in Who's Who of Collegiate Women and was the Co-Athlete of the Year her senior year for three lettered sports. Jean loved teaching and taught 4th - 5th grade for 20 years in GA, NJ, NY and CT, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. In addition to a passionate love of sports where she loudly cheered for her children and grandchildren, she and her family spent years camping, hiking, skiing and traveling. After retiring she and her husband Foster enjoyed many years traveling the US visiting and working in National Parks. Her love of music and beautiful voice were blessings she used as a renowned soloist and choir member throughout her life. Her children and grandchildren are thankful for the countless hours she spent reading, singing, and competitively playing games with them and their friends. Above and beyond her passion for teaching, traveling and family was her love for the Lord and her greatest joy was leading others to a saving knowledge of Him. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Foster H. Chase, Sr. two children Becky Chase VanderVeen (Ken), Foster H. Chase, Jr. (Brenda) and grandchildren Kristen VanderVeen Riebock (Josh), Ryan VanderVeen (Courtney), Jason VanderVeen, Brandon VanderVeen, Kelsey Chase, Kylee Chase, brother Frank Hanling, Jr. (Jeanne) and step-mother Margaret Hanling. She was preceded in death by her mother Marguerite Warner Hanling and her father Frank Hanling, Sr.
A private burial ceremony occurred this weekend at Pleasant Prairie Cemetery in Spokane, WA and a memorial service open to all friends will be held March 26th at 11AM at Foothills Community Church 11102 N. Forker Rd. Spokane, WA

The family deeply thanks the amazing nurses at Brighton Court, Claire Bridge at Park Place Spokane Valley, and Horizon Hospice for their care and support.
