Allan Mills EWING Obituary
EWING, Allan Mills
(Age 78)

Passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018 at home, unexpectedly, of natural causes. He was born January 31, 1940 to Paul F. Ewing and Ellen Mills (Ewing) in Portland, Oregon. His father, Paul, converted to Catholicism in Rome while covering the Holy Year for The Oregonian. Al attended Madeline grade school and Central Catholic High School until his family moved to Spokane in March of his senior year where Al attended and graduated from Gonzaga Prep. Al attended Gonzaga University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Philosophy and a minor in Psychology. During his senior year he met Mareen, a student at Sacred Heart School of Nursing. On September 7, 1963, while serving in the United States Army, and home on leave from his station in Panama, he and Mareen were married. They returned to Panama, where he was in the Army Airborne Unit and on the rifle team. After active duty Al joined the army reserves, and belonged to the US Army Marksmanship Unit, competing worldwide. They moved back to Spokane where his first son, Greg was born in October 1965. Al worked as an insurance adjuster. He was transferred to Walla Walla where their second son, Jeff, was born in January 1970. The Ewing family returned to Spokane in 1971. After a couple years he started his own business as a gunsmith, from which he retired in 2014. His skills as a sharp shooter were demonstrated throughout his army career. He set many records throughout his career including a world record at Campy Perry, Ohio and won the coveted Australian Queens Cup (the first non-Australian to do so). Al had a passion for shooting, gunsmithing, hunting, and fishing. He was proud to mentor numerous people in marksmanship and gunsmithing. He is survived by his wife Mareen, sister Mary (Dianne), brother Ben (Gina), son Greg (Theresa), son Jeff (Traci), grandson Tavish and many loved nieces and nephews. There will be a visitation, Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 1-4 at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division, Spokane, WA.
