Andrew Skovran Obituary

SKOVRAN,
Andrew Charles
(Age 65)
(1946 ~ 2011)

Andy Skovran passed away of natural causes April 27, 2011, at his family home in Spokane, WA.
Andy was born in Bismarck, ND, attended Assumption Abbey in Richardton, ND, and graduated with a BA from St. Martin's in Olympia, WA. He then joined the Air Force which became a source of great pride and satisfaction. He retired after 20 years of service as a Master Navigator on B-52s and as one of the last crew members to sit Nuclear Alert in the final years of the cold war.
After military retirement, Andy turned his efforts and energy to working with the Inland Northwest Council of Boy Scouts of America, where he was commissioner for many years. He was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, as well as SCOPE (Spokane County Orienting Policing Efforts). He encouraged community participation and was a ready volunteer for his many interests.
Words to describe Andy include: Loving, Honest, Faithful, Reliable, Cheerful and Gregarious. He saw the good in everybody. He will be missed by so many.
Andy leaves his wife of 32 years, Joyce K. Skovran (Larson), son, Major (select) Drew Skovran of Abilene, TX, and daughter, Amanda Skovran of Renton, WA. He is also survived by sisters, Elizabeth Hansen of Sparks, NV, Sharon Heil of Chewelah, WA, sister-in-law, Darlene Skovran of Burnsville, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death is his much admired older brother, John T. Skovran and parents Helen Mae (McCollough) and Andrew John Skovran.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorials to be made to the Inland Northwest Council Boy Scouts of America (W. 411 Boy Scout Way, Spokane, WA 99201) or St. Luke Lutheran Church (9706 N. Division St., Spokane, WA 99218). Memorial Service will be held on May 7, 2011 at 12 Noon at St. Luke with a reception to follow. Joyce, I am so sorry to hear about Andy. I lost touch with everybody after I left EMSI, but thought of him often. I remember him always saying "yes, dear" everytime I would ask him to do something. He always made me smile with his humor and willingness to do the right thing. My thoughts are with you and your family and if you need anything, please don't hesitate to call me. 509-315-6320

Joyce, Amanda, and Drew: Andy was so obviously proud of his family, and with good reason. I will miss his calls to Joyce while I am doing her hair (it was usually to pick up KFC on her way home- lol), his not so subtle hints that Amanda should keep her hair long, those great Harry Potter movie meets, and the fun and generous way he teasingly interacted with Tori- she just loved him. I know he was thrilled that his son made Major, and looked forward to saluting him as such. He was so full of life that it's impossible to imagine him gone. He had a joi de vivre that was infectious, and we will miss him greatly. Much love to you all, from all of us.
