CRAWFORD,
Barbara
Hazel

Born February 25, 1917

Barbara passed gently into the eternal gates of peace on January 28, 2018 at the age of 100. The chronicles of Barbara's 100 years are overflowing with love, compassion and a giving spirit for those who knew her and to life itself. She was born on the high chaparral of Colorado State in a log cabin where Teddy Roosevelt stayed to conduct his famous lion hunt. Being raised on a dry land farm prepared her for distant places and forgotten cultures. Most of her adult life was dedicated to loving and living among American Indian Nations ranging from New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming and Eastern Washington. In later years she adapted to city life in Spokane, Washington, with the same passion for living and loving new friends and neighbors, where she was honored by the city as "Good Neighbor of the Year." How does one summarize a century of living in a few sentences? Perhaps these simple words will cover it all: "Barbara always bloomed where she was planted and what a blossom she was!"
Barbara is survived by her son James Crawford (Donna); her daughter Patsy Swartz; two grandchildren, Carol Brown (Todd) and Joseph Swartz; two great-grandchildren, Delana Pennington and Jack Swartz; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. She is also survived by the friends and care staff at Aegis of Lynnwood, WA who loved and cared for her over the last five years of her life. Our family will be forever grateful. We would also like to thank Hospice for making her transition as comfortable as possible.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert; and her companion of 13 years, Tom Highland.
A funeral service will be held at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe St., Spokane, WA, February 7, 2018 at 12:30 pm. Interment to follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
