Barbara Johnson Obituary

JOHNSON, Barbara W.

April 2 1923 -"
April 13, 2011

Barbara passed peacefully from this life on the morning of April 13th, after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by caring family and excellent caregivers
during the last days of her
life. Barbara was born in San Francisco, CA, where she lived most of her life. She married Robert Connor at age 25. In four short years she was widowed by polio and went to work in the insurance industry in order to raise her son Joe and daughter Peggy. Many knew her as a caring second Mom through those growing years and well beyond. In 1970, with her children grown and on their own, Barbara remarried to longtime friend, Merv Johnson. They settled in Paradise, CA and in a few years made a big move to the sunny shores of Maui. Barbara loved Hawaii, enjoyed family visits and made wonderful lifelong friends living there. She and her husband traveled and enjoyed the relaxed lifestyle only Hawaii could afford. Merv's health eventually forced them back to the mainland and Spokane, where they spent their remaining time together with family. Barbara returned to California to be near her daughter Peggy and her, sister, Shirley. Barbara loved socializing, playing bingo, going to plays and traveling. One more move brought her back to Spokane where she remained until her death. Barbara is survived by many relatives (and spouses) including her son, Joe; sisters, Shirley and Nancy; granddaughters, Eryn, Shannon and Whitney; great-grandchildren, Tatum, Ava and Reese; cousins, Ned, Kathy and Jim and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with extended family through marriage in the Johnson family, the van Halderen family and the Routsis family. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Robert Connor, husband Merv Johnson, daughter Peggy, brother-in- law Jack Hamil and brother, Bud Smith.
There will be a Rosary for Barbara, Tuesday, April 26th at 7:00 PM and a Memorial Mass Wednesday, April 27th, 11:00 AM
St. Peter Catholic Church, 3520 E 18th Avenue, Spokane, WA 99223.
