Betty Ferguson Obituary

FERGUSON, Betty L.

Passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 17th. We all have a beautiful angel looking over us. Betty was born in Coeur d'Alene on March 11th 1934 to John and Mildred Strobel. She grew up in the Rose Lake area attending all 12 school years at the Rose Lake Community School. She was very involved in school activities including co-captain of the basketball team. She made many friends in school who continued to be friends all her life. She graduated in 1951.

Betty met her first husband, Richard (Dick) Donohoe in elementary school. They married in 1952 until his death in a logging accident in June 1957. They had two daughters: Candy and Robin. Betty married her second husband, Percy Ferguson, July 17th 1959. They had four children: Gina, Tony, Evan and Mark. Percy passed away in February 1998.

Betty wore many hats in her life. Raising her six children was her favorite role. Later in life she volunteered at the Hospice Thrift Shop in Post Falls for 10 years. She was very proud of her volunteer work.

Our Mom was well loved for her straight forward no-nonsense manner which was always given with a dose of humor and love and swift kick in the rear if needed. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her six children and their spouses, 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren (yes she was busy), as well as numerous nieces and nephews who all loved her. Betty was the youngest of five. She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Jack Strobel and Helen Chatfield are her remaining living siblings.

The celebration of her life will be held at 10am on Thursday February 24th at English Funeral Home in Coeur d'Alene. The family asks that any donations please be made to Hospice of North Idaho.

Candy, Robin, Gina, Tony, Evan, and Mark...all the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grandma Betty/Mom was a large part of my young adult life and remained there for years. I have fond memories of the house on Poleline...good times. I love the line in her obituary "a swift kick when needed." Truer words were never spoken. And most of us needed that swift kick!!! I personally am grateful for her love and kindness towads Adam and Amber...she was always there when they needed her...thanks Betty. I have been gone for over 30 years...but whenever we seen each other while visiting Idaho, I always liked to think that the closeness we once had...was still there. I wish I had the words that would ease the pain of your loss...but I don't. All I can say...is I am a phone call away. I can be reached by Blackberry, blueberry, Iphone, cranberry, whatever berry and of course the ancient way...I have a land line! And of course...email!
May God be with you all and May God Bless Betty. You will ALL reamin in my thought and prayers. Betty...say I to Percy for me!!!

Betty and I shared laughter until our eyes watered too many times to count.. We shared many knowing glances during family gatherings. She was my counsel through some tough tiimes. I remember the day she showed me her wedding dress with the 19" waist. She was very proud of her family. A very generous person who shared whatever she had. To each and every person in her family I send my love and heartfelt sympathy. I am grateful to have known her and her passing leaves a void in my heart.

I am very thankful that I had the chance to meet Betty Lou through Robin. The few times I spent with her were very special to me. I know you will all miss her so much. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I wish I could be there in person for the celebration of her life, but I will be there in spirit. God bless. Vanessa

I send my most sincere condolences on the loss of Grandma Better. That's how I knew her, through my beloved step-children Adam and Amber. I never met her, but in addition to having a small part in helping raise Adam and Amber, I did get to meet Betty's daughters Gina and Robin. Robin, I thank you for always making me feel welcome and liked. Gina, I especially thank you. It isn't often that a former and a current spouse can find a common ground, but we did. You made me feel on equal footing when we were standing at Adam's bedside when he was so sick and you made sure I felt included as family when Amber and John were married. I will be forever grateful for your helping my son John when he was in need. I consider you a friend and would be there to help if you ever needed me. Thank for sharing your precious children with me. I know Grandma Betty will always be looking down on us and her love and wisdom live on in her family. My love and prayers are with you all/

To The Ferguson family... Your mom was the coolest!!! Evan and Mark..... I have many fond memories of your parents, but the one that I will never forget was when we got caught smoking! I will never forget how sick we got when we smoked Pall Mall's......... Our parents were tough no doubt... But as we get older we realize they did it because they loved us! Tony, Evan, Mark, Candy, Robin, and Gina, No words can fix what you are feeling I know... But I just wanted you all to know that I too loved your mom and dad, and have so many great memories that will be with me forever! T. W.

I remember many family dinners at grandma Betty's house from when I was younger. I always loved going over there with Jamee. We always had so much fun... =) And we'd go outside and play in the big ol' yard... Geez, I have so many good memories there. We love you, Grandma Betty. You will be missed so much. Love, Dave, Connie, Aaron, Danielle, and Cierra.
