Sister Elaine C. ROY, HSC
(Age 78)

Sister Elaine Roy, a member of the Holy Spirit Community, passed away on August 2, 2018 at the Riverview Retirement Community in Spokane. She was a nun for 40 years and dedicated her life to missionary work serving in Port Hardy, British Columbia and in Sioux City, Iowa before settling in Spokane.
Elaine was born on July 9, 1940 to Normand P. Roy and Helen E. (Jette) Roy in Worcester, Massachusetts. She graduated from Holy Name High School in Worcester, staffed by the Sisters of St. Anne. She later followed a yearlong catechetical program in London, Ontario. She was also a participant in Gonzaga University's FOCUS program that brought nuns together from around the world. Before beginning her missionary work, Elaine worked at R.J. Toomey in Worcester making priest vestments. She then expanded her ability as a seamstress in Chicopee, MA. in the production of custom drapes. When doing missionary work, Elaine supported herself and the community by making hundreds of beautiful priest vestments for the Diocese of Spokane and for priests throughout the country. However, her driving force and deepest love was music. She would gladly and enthusiastically share liturgical music and karaoke with all her friends.
Elaine was the third of five children. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ronald N. Roy. She is survived by her sisters, Sister Lucille Roy, SASV, of Marlborough, MA, Pauline Gardner of Athol, MA, and Janet Lambert of Sandwich, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her lifelong and dedicated friend, Sister Rita Lemire, HSC of Spokane. Gifts and prayers may be offered to Mother Teresa's order, the Missionaries of Charity headquartered in the Bronx, NY.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 11am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 3520 E. 18th, Spokane, WA. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to:
