Clinton Dirks Obituary

DIRKS, Clinton James

Was born in Lamont, Washington on June 6, 1931. He died peacefully on March 22, 2011 at Riverview Care Center in Spokane Washington. Clinton was raised on a farm near Lamont and attended school there. He spent a brief time in the army and four years in the navy, enabling him to see some of the world. He traveled to Europe and South America but always said that the wheat country in eastern Washington was the most beautiful place he'd ever seen.
Clinton married Kay Colyar September 29, 1957 and together they raised four children on a farm north of Sprague. He was active in his community, serving such organizations as Edwall Grain Growers, Sprague Gun club, American Legion and as a Fire Commissioner. His life revolved around his family, friends and farm. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and warm and generous spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jake and Louise Dirks, his brother Clarence and his nephew Dan. He is survived by his wife Kay, their four children: Jackie, Joni and husband John Ransom, Patti and husband Mark Ostby, Randy and wife Kristen, and ten grandchildren: Tyler and Ben Ostby, Erika, Dustin, Riley, Cameron and Blake Dirks, Emma and Sarah Ransom, and Kay Lowe. He is also survived by two sisters, Helen Jordan of Cheney and Lorraine Shawgo of St. John, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A potluck and Memorial Service to celebrate Clinton's life will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sprague, Washington at 12:00 noon on April 8. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sprague Fire Department Building Fund (PO Box 278 Sprague, 99032) or the charity of your choice.

Kay & Family -Clint cared so much for the Sprague-Lamont community and did so much people never knew about. Your whole family is very special and we share your grief, but celebrate in the knowledge Clint is happy & healthy again, only now in Heaven.

Kay, Jackie, Joni, Patty, Randy and family,
Thoughts of you all bring such warm memories of times past. Clint's wry humor and handsome smile will stick with me always. I remember him telling the story of how he met you, Kay, as a youngster on your dad's farm, and how he waited--not so patiently--for you to grow to marriageable age! Surely his family was his first love, and then the fields... I'm so sorry he's gone.

Kay and Family,
Clint was a one-of-a-kind. I guess you know that. Not only an excellent farmer and steward of the soil, but a generous man with a fantastic sense of humor. We'll all miss him, but he's in good company with neighbors Bill Ringwood, FL Gaffney, John Gaffney, Bud Hoffman, Ed Young and others. God Bless Clint, and you all.

Kay and Clint always welcomed this "city girl" into their home and made me feel welcomed. Riding in Clint's combine is one of my fondest childhood memories. He always made me laugh and his smile was like sunshine. You're in my heart forever Clint. Thanks for the memories. The entire Dirks Family and Sprague are very dear to me and always will be.
