Dorothy Martin Obituary

MARTIN, Dorothy Bernice "Dotty"(Age 76)

Our "Wonder Woman" passed away in Spokane on February 25, 2011. Dotty was born July 3, 1934 in French Camp, CA to Burton and Mabel Best. She grew up in California with her three brothers during the Depression. She married and had five children. As a single mom, she sometimes worked two or more jobs while raising her family. In 1976 she moved to Alaska to work with Caterpillar as a computer operations supervisor, and it was there that she met Merle Martin. In 1981, she returned to California to join the Northrop Corp. as a computer analyst. She stayed in touch with Merle and they married while he was teaching in Mississippi. They eventually returned to California where they lived until Merle retired in 2004 and they moved to Spokane. Dotty loved reading, puzzles and crocheting. She invented a coupon management system and was included in the 1990 edition of "Who's Who of American Inventors". She is survived by her husband Merle; bother Howard; her five children; Merle's four children; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will have a private gathering to celebrate Dotty's life, but at her request, no service will be held.
