Dorothy Kent Obituary

KENT,
Dorothy Ellen

Dorothy Ellen Kent, beloved wife and mother, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011 surrounded by her loving husband and family.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 14th at 1:30 p.m., at the Benge Community Church.
Dorothy was born July 25, 1924 in Fisher, Oklahoma to James and Delmar Adams. She was one of 12 children. She spent her youth in Oklahoma and Arizona. She joined the Army as a nurse during World War II. She was working as a nurse at Ft. Lewis, Washington in 1945 when she met her husband Herbert who was a recuperating ex-POW there. After a two-week courtship, they were married on December 4th, 1945. They made their home in Benge and farmed and raised cattle there. Dorothy and Herbert raised two sons and two daughters. They enjoyed many wonderful camping, fishing and vacation excursions with their family and dear friends. Holidays surrounded by all her family were also very special to Dorothy. Dorothy worked part time at the Benge Store & Post Office. She was also active in the local ladies clubs for many years. She enjoyed doing puzzles, playing bingo and cards and games of all kinds, especially with her family. Dorothy was very crafty and sewed for all members of her family. She made many quilts that will be treasured for years. She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to brag and make each feel like the favorite and most beloved, and the love was mutual. Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Alan Kent. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years; Herbert, and their children and their spouses, who she considered her children as well; Robert and Judy Kent of Moses Lake, Irma Kent and Randy and Ellen Bachman of Benge and George and Lisa Whitney of Warden and nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dorothy's name to either the Benge-Washtucna Lions Club or the Benge Community Church.
