Dorothy Davis Obituary

DAVIS,
Dorothy Jean

Dorothy died peacefully on January 19th, surrounded by her family. Born to Kathryn and Harold Newcomb in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she graduated from Marquette University Nursing School where she met her husband, Dr. Stuart Davis. At the time, she worked as a labor and delivery nurse at
St. Joseph's Hospital. After their wedding, the couple moved to Seattle where she worked at Providence Hospital in labor and delivery while her husband was interning at Harborview. The couple moved back to Spokane, his hometown, where Stuart opened a general medical practice. Dorothy assisted him as his nurse for fifteen years while raising their family of five children. She also volunteered to transport newborn babies from the hospitals to St Anne's Children's Home and was a volunteer for Sacred Heart Hospital Service League. She was a member of Saint Augustine Catholic Church where she attended daily mass. Dorothy, who referred to herself as a "lake person", enjoyed picking huckleberries and collecting mushrooms at Priest Lake, snow skiing, hiking and traveling with friends and family. She was a devoted homemaker, an avid antique collector, and enjoyed gardening and rock collecting. Dorothy is survived by her husband Stuart, her children, Chuck, Mary Kay (Grossman), Chris, Dave, and Drew along with 13 grandchildren, her siblings Jack Newcomb and Pat Morrell as well as many other close family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
A Rosary will be held at 5 pm on Sunday, January 23rd and Funeral Mass on Monday, January 24th, 2011 at 11 am both at Saint Augustine Catholic Church, 428 West 19th. Memorial gifts may be sent to Saint Margaret's Shelter, 101 East Hartson, or to Hospice of Spokane.
