THORESON, Duane Ralph
(Age 85)

1932 - 2018

Of Spokane Valley, WA passed away August 26, 2018 after a brief illness, with his family by his side. Duane was born on September 8, 1932 in Minot, ND. He joined the Army during the Korean War from February 1953 to January 1955 and worked as a cable splicer. He was stationed in Germany and traveled throughout Europe. He was honorably discharged from the Army as a Corporal. After the Army, Duane made his way across the country, working in several states, before settling in Spokane. There, he met the love of his life, Mavis Blake, on a double date with his brother. Duane and Mavis wed on August 16, 1958. They were married nearly 60 years before her passing in September 2017. Duane was an avid hunter and fishing was his greatest joy. He would fish anytime and anywhere, regardless of the conditions. He caught a salmon in Alaska that was over 60 pounds that he had stuffed and hung it above the fireplace for all to see. He continued to fish well into his 80s before his Parkinson's stopped him. Duane is preceded in death by his father Andrew, mother Esther, sisters Karen and Dode, brothers Robert and Leroy and his beloved wife Mavis. He is survived by daughter Kathleen R. Hartman (Mike); son Gary B. Thoreson (Polli); daughter Sharin L. Baker (Chuck); along with eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and multiple siblings, nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15th at The Intersection Church, 905 N. McDonald Rd., Spokane Valley, WA 99216.
