Earl Krueger Obituary

KRUEGER,
Earl Andrew
(Age 90)

Of Madison, WI., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, May 9, 2011 at HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born July 24, 1920 in Watertown, the son of Paul Andrew and Anna Marie (Senn) Krueger. He graduated from Watertown High School where he played football, basketball, baseball and tennis. He attended U.W. Madison where he graduated in civil engineering and met his wife, Catherine Klenert. They became lifelong residents of Madison. He was a Badger fan for 65 years, especially enjoying his season tickets to Badger football games. His engineering career took him to Beaufort, SC, South Bend, IN, and Richmond, VA before settling at Mead & Hunt, Inc. in Madison. Beginning in an office on State Street over the Chocolate Shoppe he continued with the company when it moved its office to University Avenue, where he became the president until his retirement in 1986. He was the oldest living member of Nakoma Country Club, enjoying golf for over 50 years. His golfing accomplishments were shared with many friends over the years, and included breaking 70 and a hole in one while playing golf in Arizona, where he and Cay spent 25 sunshine filled winters in Fountain Hills. He loved the outdoors and spring, summer and fall he could be found at the family cottage on Crystal Lake. There he golfed, swam, fished, sailed and loved having his children and grandchildren visit. He was smart, determined, had a quick wit and provided guidance to all. He was proud of his family and we will miss him dearly. He will remain forever in our hearts. Surviving Earl are his wife , Catherine of Madison; four children, Georgia Nelson of Spokane, WA, Raymond (Barbara) Krueger of Whitefish Bay, Lisa (Carson) Mettel of Middleton, Bill (Joann) Krueger of Brown Deer; eleven grandchildren, Heidi (Kyle) Downey, Zach (Bethany) Nelson, Ira (Marina) Nelson, Alecia (Charleston) Grimes, Eli Nelson, Lindsey (Wyatt) Zamzow, Michael (Rachel) Krueger, Senn, Quinn and Kaden Mae Mettel, Emily (Russ) Sagmoene; thirteen great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Samantha, Sadie, Austin, Preston, Cassius, Alexis, Zachary, Dylan, Phoebe, Belle, Daisy and Henrik; and nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Cardiac Care Unit at St. Mary's Hospital and HospiceCare, Inc. for their wonderful care during the last eleven days of his life. Earl was my first supervisor after I graduted from UW-Madison in 1948 and worked for Mead & Hunt that summer. I remember Earl fondly for being so helpful at the start of my engineering career. Then I encountered his son, Attorney Ray Krueger, when I consulted as an expert witness for a client of his in the 1990s. Ray and I enjoyed reminiscing about the "connection".
