Erich Kienow Obituary

KIENOW,
Erich Paul

Erich Paul Kienow was born to Edward and Helene Kienow on July 11, 1917, in Milwaukee, WI. On March 28, 2011, he went home in peace to his Lord Jesus Christ whom he loved.

Erich graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1935 with a BA in Civil Engineering and Forestry. He began his first career with Archer Daniels Midland Co. in St. James, MN, where he met Jeanne Audrey Ludvigson. Erich and Jeanne where married on October 12, 1947, in Marshall, MN. They were married for 62 years.

Continuing his career as a Safety Engineer, Erich worked for Yellowstone Pipeline then Conoco Oil Co. for 25 years primarily in Spokane, WA, and also Indiana, Texas, and Minnesota. In 1978 he retired from Conoco and enjoyed working a little over 10 years for Green Thumb Nursery in the Spokane Valley.

In 1962, Erich and Jeanne purchased "The Lake House" at Rockford Bay on Coeur d' Alene Lake in Idaho. They used this every summer as a sanctuary for friends and family. Then in 1978 it became their permanent home through the fall of 2010. Erich spent his last year and a half comfortably at Autumn Haven Assisted Living in Hayden, ID.

The renovating of the Lake House was one of Erich's greatest accomplishments. He took the original cabin and with the help of family and friends over a period of 6 years, tore down, rebuilt and expanded the home into what it is today. He took pride in the refuge he provided for those lucky enough to spend time there. Throughout his life, Erich was a wonderful husband and provider for his wife and five children. He valued education, traditions, and leading the family spiritually. He held such titles as "chairman", "board member" or "elder" for multiple organizations and was active in his church and community.

Erich was preceded in death by both his parents, his older brother, Orville, and his wife, Jeanne. Survivors include two siblings, Gertrude Pett and Ruth Werning; and children Paula Woodruff, Helen (Alex) Priest, David Kienow, Carol Barnes and Trish Kienow. He also loved and cherished 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1pm Monday, April 18th, 2011, at Candlelight Christian Fellowship, Coeur d' Alene, ID, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association, 910 W. 5th, Ste 256, Spokane, WA, 99204. Condolences may be sent to the family at 18282 S. University Point Rd, Coeur d' Alene, ID, 83814.

My condolences to the family. From experience I know how difficult it is to lose your father. I remember Helen and Paula spending summer at the lake house. My best to the family.
