Frank Tanderjian

TANDERJIAN, Frank
February 5, 1934 - December 17, 2010

Frank was born and raised in New York City with his one brother and two parents. As a kid, Frank loved baseball. Frank was an independent journalist during the Civil Rights Movement, writing for a number of journals. He traveled the South gathering materials for his reports. He was the last person to see Civil Rights Activist Medgar Evers alive, interviewing him prior to his returning home on June 12, 1963, where Evers was shot as he exited his car in front of his home. A few days later, Frank and another journalist were involved in preventing a riot at Ever's funeral, using a bullhorn to warn the mourners to look up and notice the armed men on the Jackson, Mississippi downtown rooftops waiting to shoot into the crowd should they begin to get out of control. Frank, a soft-spoken and highly intelligent white man from New York City, spoke highly of all civil rights activists.
Frank was married to Carol Bagley, a university professor. They were together over 30 years. They met at a university as he also was a university teacher. Carol preceded Frank in death on February 22, 2005. They loved and cared for each other very much.
Frank will be missed by his readers and friends. He made the world a better place for all of us.
