GRUBER, G. Joan (Elsensohn)

Joan Gruber passed away of natural causes on Friday, August 31, 2018, at age 85. She is survived by her son, Greg (and his wife Kathy), and her two grandsons, David and Nick. Joan also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and more, as well as friends too numerous to name.
Joan was born in Clarkston, WA, and was the last surviving of eight children of Josef and Paulina Elsensohn. She graduated from Clarkston HS in 1950, and was still in touch with several of her classmates 68 years later.
After her 1969 divorce from Jack Gruber, she and Greg moved from Lewiston to Spokane in 1971. Joan worked as the Secretary to the Assistant Dean at the ICNE nursing school for over 20 years, until she retired in 1994. She was a member of the St. Charles Alter Society, and was a contributor to many charities over the years.
For the last nine years, Joan lived at The Academy retirement community, where she made many friends and played countless hands of bridge and Skip-Bo. A memorial/celebration of life will be held at The Academy, located at 1216 N. Superior in Spokane, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018.
