Geneva Ward Obituary

WARD,
Geneva Helen
(Nash)

Geneva passed peacefully into the arms of God on September 10, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Thomas O. and Genevieve A. (Donne) Nash in Spokane on May 31, 1956. A long-time member of St. Thomas More Parish, she graduated from St. Thomas More School and Holy Names Academy. She received her BA in Art History from Gonzaga University in 1978. She especially enjoyed a year of studying abroad at Gonzaga-in-Florence, an experience she cherished for the rest of her life. While still in high school, Geneva began her career in the restaurant business at the Flamingo Restaurant in Spokane. Later, she learned the fine points of restaurant management from her dad and became owner of the Sportsman Café after her parents passed. Geneva treasured her relationships with her loyal employees and customers throughout the years. A past president of the Spokane Chapter of the Washington State Restaurant Association, she worked for many years on its behalf in legislative affairs. Geneva was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Christina Ward from a previous marriage to David E. Ward; three siblings, Thomas, Peggy (Jerry) and Bill (Donna); and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews and extended family. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Spokane or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18 from 12-5pm, with a Vigil Rosary Service Sunday at 5pm, all at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Geneva's cousin, Msgr. Kevin Codd at 10 AM on September 19, 2011 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 505 W. St. Thomas More Way, Spokane, WA with committal to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Please visit Geneva's tribute and leave a condolence at www.hennessey funeralhomes.com. Dear Peggy and Family..

I had the joy of knowing your mom at Gonzaga and in Florence. Her laughter, full smile and jet black hair always added energy to a room.

I wish I had a special anecdote to share but all that comes to mind is sitting and laughing. Relishing life. And she was always so mature, much more than me.

My heart and prayers go out to you and your family for the loss of a mother, sister, aunt. A beautiful woman. A beautiful soul.

*hugs*

If ever there was someone who embodied the concept of a beloved aunt, it was our Aunt Geneva. She was always witty, never dull, and added that special ingredient to family get-togethers and holidays. She is missed and will never be forgotten. God bless her as she was a blessing to all of us.
