NELSON, Genevieve Hope (Stahl), R.N.
(Age 89)
Peacefully entered Jesus' arms on April 9, 2011 in Moscow, ID surrounded by her family. Genevieve (Gen) was born in Spokane, Washington January 21, 1922 to Frank Earl Stahl and Ethel Belle (Short) Stahl. She was the fourth child in a family of five. She attended schools in Mansfield WA and Spokane WA graduating from Rogers High School in 1940.
During WWII, she was employed at Boeing in Seattle WA. She then enrolled in nursing at St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Spokane with the Army Nurse Corps and Gonzaga making lifelong friends and graduating in 1947.
Gen married the love of her life, William (Bill) F. Nelson 7/17/1946 when he returned after completing combat 32 missions over Germany in WWII in the Army Air Corps. They were blessed with a son and a daughter. Always with a servant's heart, Gen worked nights, so that she could be home with her children during the day. She retired early from Shriners Hospital in 1982 after 20 years of service, when her husband retired as Chief Inspector at the Transcontinental Freight Bureau.
Gen had a love for life. She had a bright smile and a contagious giggle. She enjoyed knitting, bowling, pinochle, music and dancing. She was often caught in the kitchen sneaking "just a taste" of ice cream or grabbing a hold of a doorknob to dance an impromptu jitterbug when a song inspired her. Although she retired from nursing, her heart never let it go. She was known to help anyone who needed it. She was her happiest when surrounded by family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Randall F. Nelson and wife Mary (Williamson) Nelson of Spokane WA, daughter Sherry Rozell and husband Terry of Moscow ID, four grandchildren, Wendy Waltner (David), Angie White (Dain) of Moscow, and Greg Nelson (Kristi) of Spokane WA and Erin (Nelson) Huevel (Ben) of Spokane Valley WA, seven great-grandchildren Nathan and Emily Hope Waltner, Zahn and Ava White, and Riley, Avery, and Coen Nelson, brother in-law Howard Black, Mansfield, WA, and many beloved nieces and nephews, all very dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death parents, her husband Bill, Spokane Valley WA, brother Earl Stahl, her stepmother Ora (Brannon) Stahl and sisters Carula Alliston Klar, Springfield OR, Elnora Mowery, Tri-Cities WA, and Madison Heights VA, Ardith Black, Mansfield, WA.
The family would like to thank the staff at Good Samaritan Village for taking such good care of her.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children in Spokane or Good Samaritan Village in Moscow.
