George Jackman Obituary

JACKMAN,
George M.

George Magee Jackman was born in Spokane, WA in 1922. His earthly journey ended on May 21, 2011 at the age of 88. Mr. Jackman attended Rogers High School in Spokane before entering Washington State College in Pullman. His studies were interrupted by WW II. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946, piloting B-17 Flying Fortresses with the 8th Air Force, based in England. In later years, he recalled humanitarian flights, including transporting released prisoners of war from concentration camps and dropping food to Dutch citizens. Mr. Jackman married Anna Lea Widman of Rosalia, WA on August 22, 1944. Upon completion of his military service, they returned to Washington State College, where he graduated in General Agriculture. For the next twenty years, the Jackmans lived in Albion, WA, where they raised three children. Together they operated a dairy farm, a community store, remodeled or built several homes, traveled and contributed to community life. When their children were grown, Mr. and Mrs. Jackman volunteered carpentry and nursing skills in Central America with the Layman's Association for Overseas Service. Upon returning to the states, they settled on Florida's Gulf Coast, where their service to others continued for 35 years. Before permanently returning to the Northwest in 2004, the Jackmans enjoyed summering at Coeur d'Alene Lake and wintering in Florida. Spokane Valley Good Samaritan Village became George's final home, where he greatly benefited from the staff's care and friendship. Mr. Jackman is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anna Lea; son Dave (Brigitte); daughters JoAnn (Ron) and Lynn (Dee); seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Taylor. A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 pm, Friday, May 27, 2011, at the Valley Good Samaritan Community Center, 17121 East 8th Avenue, Greenacres, WA 99016. The family suggests that memorials be made to Valley Good Samaritan Village. SCHANZENBACH FUNERAL HOME, ROSALIA, WA.
