Harold Bratlie Obituary

BRATLIE,
Harold Roy

Passed away peacefully at home Friday, May 20, 2011.
He was born June 23, 1931 in Faith, South Dakota to Olaf and Dorothy Bratlie. He was raised in the Idaho Panhandle and attended schools at Hayden Lake and Coeur d'Alene.
Harold married his
childhood sweetheart,
Norma Hyde, in August 1950 and proceeded to master his trade in cement finishing. Together they "followed the work" - moving every time a new job would become available. He finally settled in the Spokane Valley and with his long time friend, Vaughn Murphy, started B&M Cement Finishing, Inc. He worked as a respected cement finisher for over 40 years throughout the Inland Empire.
Harold was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and gardening.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Norma. He leaves behind two daughters; Patti Guy of Deer Park, WA, and Penni Rose (John) of Otis Orchards, WA; his four granddaughters, Angela Santorsola (Matt) of Seattle, WA, Melissa Guy (Angela) of Tempe, AZ, Jill Plumb (Jimmie) of Spokane Valley, WA and Julie Rose of Liberty Lake, WA; his three great-granddaughters, Carli and Haily and Jolie, and his great-grandson Jase; two brothers Norman Bratlie of Coeur d' Alene, ID and Kenneth Bratlie (Betty) of Portland, OR and their families.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Spokane Valley Wesleyan Church, 16607 E. Broadway, Spokane Valley, followed by a gathering for food and memories at the church.
Memorial contributions in Harold's name may be made to the Spokane Valley Wesleyan Church Preschool, 16607 E. Broadway, Spokane Valley, WA 99037.

I have such fond memories of Penni, your mom and dad.........from the time of Penni and I taking gymnastics to your mom and dad living next door to my mom! Your dad was such a "funny" man! He would always just be the type of person to always make you laugh!! Back in the day, my mom did their accounting for his concrete finnishing business! So much I could say but my heart goes out to the family at this difficult time! He truely will be missed! Hold on to your memories as this will comfort you in the days to come......

Having memories as a teenager and a good friend to Patti, Mr. Bratlie (Harold) wasn't around the house very much when I was over--He was always out working -- just like my Dad! I do remember the story about the spaghetti fight he and Norma got into. Pasta was hanging everywhere--according to Patti!!! I am sad I didn't get a chance to visit with him too much... but he and Norma raised great kids. They both will be missed deeply!!! Much love to the family....Lynda Sipe
