The funeral service will be Monday, September 30th, at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott. Viewing will be for one hour prior to service. Graveside interment will follow at the Endicott Cemetery. Hazel Jean was born on the family farm at Lancaster to Ben and Addie (Miller) Schierman on January 7, 1935. She grew up on the farm and attended schools in St. John where she graduated high school. She worked in the assessor's office in Colfax for a few years and it was while attending a grange hall dance that she met her future husband. Hazel married Kenneth Blumenschein, a handsome farmer from Endicott, on Valentine's Day 1954 in St. John. They made their home on his farm near Endicott where she kept busy as a homemaker and mother. They raised three girls together. Hazel was a hard worker and she loved to cook for the harvest crews. She was an excellent cook and baker; often working all day on three large meals and a fresh dessert. She liked to do canning and gardening as well. Hazel was a talented seamstress and did lots of sewing. She served as the secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church for a time. In 1982 Hazel and Kenneth moved into Colfax. They continued to operate their farm for several more years from there. They were active members of Peace Lutheran Church. Hazel had a little more time to catch up on her knitting and crocheting projects and she took up quilting which she thoroughly enjoyed. She made many lovely quilts for her family. She kept a beautiful yard in Colfax and loved tending her roses. She loved spending time with her family and was very active in the lives and happenings of her grandchildren. She followed them in all their activities. Kenneth passed away in 1998. Hazel lived at home until moving to Bishop Place in Pullman a little over two years ago. She is survived by her three daughters; Michele Blumenschein of Denver, CO; Lila Lust (Terry) of Davenport, WA.; and Lola Gillespie (Bob) of Pullman; six grandchildren, Stephanie and Kendra both of Denver; Addie Carstensen (Blinn) of Richland, WA; Elizabeth Waldher (Joe) of Pomeroy, WA; Emily Lust, Seattle; and Jennifer Arnzen (Conrad) of Craigmont, ID.; three great-grandchildren; Trey and Elle Carstensen and Daphne Waldher with two more; baby Waldher and baby Arnzen on the way. She was so proud of all of them. Memorial gifts are suggested to Trinity or Peace Lutheran Church. BRUNING FUNERAL HOME, Colfax, caring for the family.
