Hazel N. (Bunke)

July 1, 1923 - July 4, 2018

Hazel was born in Hettinger, North Dakota to Arthur and Gevina Bunke. She left her earthly body on July 4, 2018 at the age of 95. Hazel and her sister traveled to Spokane in 1943, where she met Clayton Hunt in 1944, who was stationed at Geiger Field. They married in June, 1945, enjoying over 59 years together until Clayton's passing in 2004.
For most of their adult lives, Hazel and Clayton lived in Mead, Washington, providing a stable and loving environment for their five children. On this rural property, Hazel maintained childhood roots with farm animals, such as cows, horses, chickens, geese, cats and dogs. She was a homemaker who worked hard to provide her family with natural, healthy foods such as fresh milk, eggs, butter, and often homemade bread. There was always a garden and harvest time brought on the food preservation. Until recently, Hazel still made applesauce in the fall.
Hazel and Clayton enjoyed dancing, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. They liked going to the Omak Stampede; vacation travel frequently took them to North Dakota and Michigan to visit family and friends. After Clayton's retirement from Kaiser Aluminum in 1982, they began traveling around the country in their RV, sometimes spending winters in Arizona.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton, her mother and father and four siblings. She is survived by three daughters and two sons: Nancy Walker (Larry), Robert Hunt, Patricia Waller, Colleen Woods (Stan) and Richard Hunt (Joanie). She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Horizon Hospice. The family would like to express their gratitude to Horizon Hospice for the excellent care and support for Hazel and her family. The family would also like to express their appreciation to the staff at Brookdale North for the care they provided, especially in the last weeks of Hazel's life.
Services will be held at Riplinger Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 10 at 10:30 a.m. A reception will be held at North Addison Baptist Church; a private burial will follow. www.riplingerfuneralhome.com
