GENO, Ila Charlotte (Boon) February 14, 1920 - November 5, 2018 Ila passed away peacefully on November 5th. She was 98. Ila was born at the Boon homestead in Swan Valley, Montana. In High School she played varsity basketball and was active in many other activities. After graduating from Flathead High School in 1938, she attended Montana State College School of Nursing and received her nursing degree in 1941. At the outbreak of World War II, both her brothers joined the service and she felt an obligation to join the war effort as well. She joined the Army and while stationed at Ft. Stevens, Oregon she met the love of her life Robert Geno who was also stationed there. They were married in March of 1944 but shortly the war separated them. Robert was sent to the Pacific while Ila was posted to an Army hospital in England for the buildup to the D-Day invasion. After the war they moved to Spokane when Bob was assigned there by General Electric and they started their life together and a family. They had three children, Robert Jr, Michele and Mark. Intermittently between stints as a housewife and homemaker she worked at Deaconess Hospital first as a nurse then later as the Junior Volunteer coordinator. Deaconess was "her" hospital and after retiring she still stayed active there serving as a volunteer and also as the Auxiliary President. In her later years she became a big Gonzaga basketball fan and you knew not to call her if they were playing as you could count on her being glued to the TV very vocally rooting them on. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years in 2004 and daughter Michele in 2017. She is survived by sons Robert (wife Toni) and Mark (wife Darla) and son-in-law Tim McCabe, four grandchildren: Lara, Rachel, Joey and Emma as well as step-grandchildren: Tammy, Chris and Tim; also sister Elaine McIntyre plus many nieces and nephews. Ila had requested that there be no memorial or funeral service for her. Remember her as the loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend that she was to you.
