KING, Irma

Irma King passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 10th at the age of 97. She was born to Abraham and Lydia Jantz in Ruff, Washington on January 9, 1921. Following graduation from Harrington High School in 1938, she moved to Spokane, eventually working for 30 years as an operator at the Bell Telephone Company.
In 1946 Irma met Howard King, a captain in the Army Air Force, who was stationed at Fort George Wright. Irma and Howard were married in 1947, and had their first son, Douglas, in 1948. Second son, Howie, was born in 1952. Following brief moves to Los Angeles and Great Falls, Montana, the family returned to their home in Spokane, where Irma resided for the remainder of her life.
Irma was preceded in death by her husband Howard and son Douglas, who died from leukemia at age five. She is survived by her son Howie, grandson Max, and great-granddaughter Zoe.
Having survived her three brothers (Howard, Cornelius, Merlin, and one sister, Bertha), Irma remained especially close to her 12 nieces and nephews and greatly enjoyed hearing about their lives and families. Her greatest joy was to welcome family and friends, too many to mention, to her house. She had many good friends.
Irma was known for her bright spirit, wit and warmth. Her wonderful smile touched many. Her love of life and family reached out to all who were blessed to know her.
There will be a celebration of life in Irma's honor 1:00, Saturday, May 19th, at 4819 E. Birkdale Lane, Spokane. Donations in her memory can be made to the Spokane Hospice House. Arrangements have been entrusted to:
