James Cotant Obituary

COTANT, James Paul Our Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather passed away at Sacred Heart Medical Center, the evening of May 25th, 2010. Our Heartfelt thanks go to all the staff and doctors at Sacred Heart who gave him such skilled and loving care. He was born: September 4, 1925 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Survived by, first wife, Connie and second wife of 59 years, Bonnie, married December 18, 1951. He is also survived by two sisters: Linda and Kelly, five children; Niona, Jo Ann, Jack, Nanette and Bruce, several nieces and nephews, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, James Jr. Jim entered military service with the U. S. Marine Corps in Ft. Dodge, at the age of 15 on December 18, 1941. After training in Sitka Alaska he was sent to serve in the Asiatic Pacific where he was wounded twice and upon discharge was recommended for a Good Conduct Medal. He came to Spokane where he worked at Kaiser Aluminum Plant in the Rodding Room for over 35 years. He was involved in the Moose Lodge for many years where he and Bonnie loved to dance. He also was a member of the Rock Rollers Club for over 20 years serving various offices including President and three times Chairman of the Gem and Mineral shows here in Spokane. He also traveled to local grade schools giving slide shows and talks about gem stones and minerals. He taught classes at the Rock Rollers Club on cutting, forming and mounting cabs for jewelry, belt buckles, etc. He owned Jim's Rock and Jewelry for 17 years and loved traveling the U.S. with Bonnie digging and hunting gems and minerals. He also loved to hunt and fish. He was always ready to lend a hand to anyone and will be greatly missed. Services will be held on June 2nd, 2pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way. There will also be a viewing on June 1st between 10 am and 5 pm.at Heritage.
