MIZE, Joel David

Joel David (Dave) Mize passed away on May 24th 2018 in Clermont, Florida.
Dave was born September 15, 1948, the only child to David Earl and Maxine (Hill) Mize in Blount County, Alabama.
Dave was involved in school sports, baseball and later boxing where he excelled. He was an Army brat who also lived in Germany for part of his teen years. His family then settled in Augusta, Georgia. Dave graduated from Butler High School in 1966 and then joined the U.S. Air Force that same summer. While proudly serving for 20 years, he attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska where he received a BA in Business Management.
Dave met the love of his life, Dixie Lee Wittkopf (of Spokane) when she picked him up on Riverside Avenue in Spokane in 1966 while he was attending the USAF Fairchild Survival School. They were married in 1967. After a residence in Omaha, he and his family settled in Spokane. He was preceded in death by his wife Dixie just two years ago and his parents. Dave is survived by his daughter Rachel (Nicholas) Camerino, her children Caitlin, Kyle, Dominic, Calan and Caleb, his sister Nancy (Kenneth) Quick and numerous close friends.
Dave spent his life playing music professionally, starting with drums and moving to guitar later on. He also taught at ITT Tech and owned various businesses. He loved music, RVing around the country and sharing his generosity with family and friends. Dave also took great pleasure in being able to help others in need, loved to laugh and always had a comeback for anyone he met.
A Memorial / Jam Session is scheduled for this Sunday, July 15th at The Roadhouse, 20 N. Raymond, Spokane Valley, from 2 to 6pm. Everyone is welcome, open to all ages.
