PROUTY,
Joyce Ellen
(Age 87)

Joyce Ellen Prouty passed away on September 1st, 2018 at Fairwood Memory Care. She was born January 7th, 1931 in Metaline, Washington to Jack and Grace Crampton, the oldest of three sisters. Joyce attended school in Metaline and Metaline Falls and spent two years at Washington State College (WSU). Joyce studied and performed piano in both high school and college.

Joyce caught the eye of a local boy, Ralph B. Prouty Jr. when he was home on leave from the Air Force and they married on June 17th, 1951. Together they traveled to various postings to include Arizona, Texas, Georgia, Puerto Rico, Fairchild AFB, and South Dakota. They settled In Spokane in 1966 after Ralph returned from Vietnam and retired from the Air Force. During her lifetime Joyce raised four children with Ralph: Lisa Ann (Lynn Appleford), Ralph Carlton (Deb), Grant Randall (Peg), and Amy Jo (Keith Peterson).

In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, Joyce volunteered as a Gray Lady for the Red Cross while living in Puerto Rico and was co-chair for the well baby clinic. She loved to read and took continuing education classes at Whitworth over the years. Joyce was also a longtime member of the Wi Nu Ke Chapter of Garden Club and enjoyed the many friendships she made there.

Joyce is survived by her husband and children as well as her sister Carol (Aubrey) Verstegen of Sequim, Washington. Her memory will also be cherished by her three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as her many nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Susan (Crampton) Noble.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Fairwood Memory Care and Horizon Hospice for the loving care they provided. A private family celebration of her life has already taken place. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Horizon Hospice or the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery can be made.
