June Sivara Obituary

SIVARA,
June Dee
(Hale)

Was born on June 23, 1916 in Wilson Creek and passed away peacefully on May 29, 2011 at her home in Spokane with family by her side. June was the fifth daughter born to Robert and Edna Hale. She jokingly called herself "my father's last disappointment," but everyone loved the five "Hale Sisters". June and her sisters grew up in Ione, Washington, and June graduated from Ione High School in 1933. After high school, June went to San Francisco to work for Bank of America, later moving back to Washington to attend Eastern Washington College, where she graduated as a teacher in 1947. June married the love of her life, John Sivara in 1946, and after college graduation she began teaching at Willard Elementary. June and John never had children of their own but were the favorite aunt and uncle to their many nieces and nephews, getting into trouble with June's oldest sister once when they provided a "little nip" to two prom-goers. June would also say she had hundreds of other "children" at Willard Elementary, where she taught for 33 years-"all at second grade. June will be remembered for her generous spirit, her sense of humor, her zest for life, and most especially for the extraordinary kindness she always showed to her numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and the friends she had over the years, most recently at Fairwood and Evergreen Fountains retirement communities. June was preceded in death by her beloved husband John and her sisters and their husbands: Roberta (Ron) Jacobson, Georgia (Ernie Ellersick, Leonard) Niemi, Aileen (Irwin) Jones, and Genevive (Howard) Hose. She is survived by four generations of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the excellent staff at Evergreen Fountains and June's outstanding and loving caregivers from Family First Senior Care for the support they provided to June over the past several months. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 4th at 10:00am at the Evergreen Fountains Chapel. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Spokane, the Spokane Humane Society, or the Harrington Hillcrest Cemetery Maintenance Fund (P.O. Box 492 Harrington, WA 99134). Mrs. Sivara will always hold a special place in the heart of myself (Rene' Strain), my Mother (Sharon Ripke), and my brother (Shawn Strain). She taught all of us at
Willard. In fact my Mother was in the first class she taught
there, then later she was also a teachers aide for her. She was so special to us, and made such an impact on us that my mother made some calls and we were privileged to present her with the Golden Acorn Award given to outstanding teachers. She always made us feel safe and important to her. She has been in our thoughts a lot over the years. She certainly knew what a kid needed and how to give it. We feel blessed having known her We send our condolences to her family.
