Karen Bakken Obituary

BAKKEN,
Karen Jean
(Boehm)
(Age 68)

Karen was born in Mandan, N.D. on January 24, 1943 to Margaret and John Boehm. She spent her childhood in Seaside, OR, before moving to Spokane and graduating from Lewis and Clark High School in 1961. Her parents helped build and operate Lilac Lanes Bowling Alley until the 1970s. Karen married Donald W. Bakken in 1961. Karen spent her married life in both Seattle and Spokane. She worked as a school cook in Seattle and Spokane. Karen loved bowling, volleyball, movies, bingo, cards, cats, Gonzaga basketball, playing the organ, and family gatherings. She lost her husband, Don, to cancer in 1992 after 31 years of marriage. Karen's last years were spent in poor health, but she was confident in the Lord as her savior. She passed away quietly on March 16, 2011, at her home, which she shared with her son Daniel. Karen is survived by her sons, Daniel and his wife Cathy and David and his wife Sharon; by two granddaughters Yvie and Michelle; and by her sister Vicky Scott. Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday, March 19 and 20 from 12-5PM both days. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 11PM and will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 505 W. St. Thomas More Way, Spokane. If you cannot make it to Mass on time, feel free to arrive up until 1:45PM, the family can still receive you. Committal will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall St., Spokane at 2PM.
