Kent Amsden Obituary

AMSDEN, Kent

Kent went home to say
"HI THERE, HO THERE" to Jesus on June 1, 2011 while surrounded by his family and friends. He had a strong six year battle with prostate /bone cancer. Kent was born on October 8, 1940 in Spokane, Washington.
He graduated from North Central High School in 1958 at the top of his class. Kent served in the Army training K-9 tracking and attack dogs. After completing his military service, he entered the grocery business, eventually leaving the retail side and entering the food brokerage side where he worked until his retirement. Kent was survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Jeannie Amsden. He and Jeannie experienced life to its fullest whenever they were together, which was always! Kent cherished raising his four children; Scott Amsden (Jennifer Jacobs), Rob Amsden (Laura), Dawn Lenz (Dan) and Amanda Fehler (Matt). He raised all his children under the pillars of TRUTH, RESPECT and CONSIDERATION. One of Kent's best character traits was always being there for family and friends. Kent would be there whether it was helping with a simple home repair or inspiring a fellow cancer patient. Everyone who knew Kent or had contact with him felt his incredibly positive nature. All throughout his life he found personal enjoyment playing softball, basketball, golfing and fishing. Later in life his greatest pleasure was spending time with his six grandchildren; Leah, Mikayla, Gabe, Gavin, Halle and Cole.
A Memorial Celebration service will be held on June 16, 2011 at Crossover Church, 16825 N. Newport Hwy. at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider sending a memorial contribution to Cancer Patient Care, "In memory of Kent Amsden" at cancerpatientcare.org or mail to 1507 E Sprague Ave, Spokane, Washington 99202.

Kent,

I'm sorry Joni and I couldn't make it to your service. You now know the secret what happens after we leave here and I'm sure you are in a good place. You were a fine person and left the world a better place to those whose lives you touched.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you Jeannie and family. Kent was a great associate in the grocery fraternity we shared. It had an ability with his winning way to make you feel like you were the only person getting his attention, while juggling all the balls that life threw at him. He will be missed.

I am so thankful to have had this man in my life! What a great example of how to love everything and everyone. He never seemed to sweat the small stuff or even the big stuff when cancer came his way. He loved Jesus first and was never scared. Love and miss you Kent!
