Laura Joy (Karlin)

July 11, 1987 -
March 19, 2018

Laura, born to George and Kathleen Karlin, is survived by her parents, her husband Danny Yeoman, her daughter Atiya, brothers David and Robert (Mariah), three nephews, a niece, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Laura grew up in the Spokane Valley and attended Central Valley schools. As a child she loved to play the piano; she loved her Basset Hound, and she enjoyed dancing on both the CV dance and drill teams. The loss of Laura is heartbreaking to all of us who loved her. She died from complications of years of opiate abuse that began after a car accident when she was one month away from her 18th birthday. To help with the pain of the resulting neck injury, her doctor aggressively prescribed opiates for months. Then her doctor abruptly stopped prescribing them without warning, leaving Laura drug dependent. She was never able to get free from that addiction, although she tried many drug-rehabilitation treatment programs.
She loved her family, especially her daughter Atiya. However, as anyone who has been on either end of the drug-addiction nightmare knows, Laura's love for her family was not enough to free her from the addiction.
There will be a celebration of her life on July 14, at 2:00, at the Newman Lake Grange in Newman Lake, Washington.
