Lawrence Lucas Obituary

LUCAS, Lawrence E. "Bus"
10/29/1924 ~ 3/6/2011

Bus was born October 29, 1924 to Albert and Ruth Lucas in Spokane where he was a lifelong resident. He attended area schools until drafted into the army before he graduated. While serving in the 10th Mountain Division and stationed in Italy he earned his G.E.D. A year after returning to civilian life, he met the love of his life, Marguerite A. Rowles. They were married on January 11, 1947. A year later Bus started his career as a semi truck driver with Safeway Distribution Center that lasted 39 years. He retired in 1989. As a youngster he participated in all sports. He was an excellent hockey player where he was known as "Dirty Luke". He was an avid golfer all through his adult life and was truly respected among the Spokane golfing community. His survivors include his wife of 64 years, Maggie; sons Steve (Vicki), Dan (Lorraine), Rick (Juanita); daughter Cindy Pruden; grandchildren, Brett, Kyle and Ty Lucas, Cammie Kubas, Joe and Carrie Lucas, Eddie and Maggie Abrams and five great-grandchildren. Other survivors include four sisters out of ten siblings, Janeane (Jerry) Blimpka, Gloria Lowery, Rita French and Suzie (Paul) Witter and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughter Candi Rome in 1995. Bus' entire family will miss his love, kindness and generosity. He was a loving husband and a loving father to his immediate and extended family. Bus took great pride in his children's successes in life and encouraged high standards and beliefs which were respected by those who knew and loved him. We will really miss the good times we had dancing at the Eagles with Mom and Dad and Betty and Keith. Three expressions that we remember most were "how do," "good for you" and "have fun." When you're high in the heavens, hit em straight dad! The family would like to offer our special thanks to niece, Kathy Ferster, for her support during Bus' illness. Also to Avalon Care Center for the special care he received from the staff. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association, 1817 E. Springfield, Suite E, Spokane, WA 99202. A rosary will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 10:30 am. A Memorial Service will be held after the rosary at 10:45 am at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division, Spokane, WA.
